Contractors Information
Welcome to the HDC contractors page
These pages are aimed at providing current and potential R&D contractors with information and the relevant forms that HDC uses to manage its research programme.
The Horticultural Development Company is a statutory body which funds essential near market research and development for the benefit of UK horticulture, through the collection of an ‘industry levy’. Since its formation the HDC has commissioned R&D costing over £35 million.
Clearly, funding of R&D will only bring effective returns to UK growers if:
• |
The right projects are developed |
• |
They are systematically monitored |
• |
The results are communicated effectively to enable their implementation. |
The Commissioning Process

To qualify for HDC funding, projects must have:
• |
Clearly stated objectives |
• |
Measurable milestones to enable the progress of the project to be assessed, and |
• |
Indicate how the results will be exploited by the industry after completion of the project. |
The projects are all monitored regularly and reviewed by the industry co-ordinators, HDC technical staff and other advisors (eg growers and scientists) to check progress against the project's objectives and milestones.
Annual and final reports are made available to all HDC Members. All reports have the results interpreted for practical use by growers, in a Grower Summary. These summaries are available for members to download from this website.
HDC has produced a set of Guidelines that go in to more detail about each step of the project commissioning and management process. The pages on this site detail each step in the process. Alternatively, you can download a full copy of the guidelines or request a copy from the HDC office.
