Crop Associations
With the increasing influence of EU legislation
on UK horticulture and the growing demands on R&D resources
there is a clear need to seek collaboration with our EU
partners. Preliminary investigations have identified some
duplication of research work across the EU and a need to
share the burden of data generation to support minor use
pesticide approvals. We are currently at the early stages
of realising this potential by investigating means of streamlining
the sharing of residue data and R&D information. Both
must be considered on a fair exchange basis. Our current
pesticide gap analysis will allow any collaborations to
be targeted to give the maximum benefit to HDC growers.
Two UK crop associations, the British
Herb Trade Association (BHTA) and the British Onion Producers
Association (BOPA) have pioneered this approach by forming
EU crop associations. At the request of the Speciality
Produce Growers Association HDC commissioned a search
of equivalent EU crop associations, in order to help
this and other UK associations establish links in Europe.

a diversity of groups across Europe.
