Levy
Under the statute that led to the formation of the Horticultural Development Company (HDC), which manages the horticultural levy for the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), all horticultural producers with annual sales, (less allowable deductions), exceeding 60,000 or more are eligible to pay the levy, except those growing hops. The levy is currently set at 0.5% plus VAT of sales and is collected each year starting in April. A similar system operates for mushroom growers but is based on the amount of spawn purchased.
Voluntary Levy
Growers whose net sales value is less than 60,000 can take advantage of the same benefits of the Levy Payer by making a voluntary contribution. The price of the voluntary contribution is 150 plus VAT per year.

Non-Grower Membership
Individual Member
This membership is for any individual (one named person) for example researcher, consultant or retired grower with connections or an interest in UK horticulture.
Price: 500 + VAT per person.
Benefits Include
- Unlimited access to all HDC news, publications and reports via the HDC website
- Access to one hard copy of any project report and grower summary
- A single copy of each issue of the HDC News (10 issues per year) sent to your registered address
- Notification of HDC-funded approvals for pesticides under the Specific Off-Label Approval scheme sent to the one registered email address
- Weekly email service from the HDC highlighting new projects, dates for your diary and news on industry developments and initiatives sent to your registered email address
- You are entitled to one hard copy of each HDC publication, factsheet, grower guide or DVD. You will automatically receive one hard copy of any publication that meets your area of interest. All other publications produced are available to order via the HDC office.
- Your membership entitles you to one place at any HDC-funded event including conferences, seminars, workshops or training. Additional places are available at a subsided rate.
Group Members
This membership applies to the following groups, consultant groups, charitable groups, advisory bodies, academic institutes including colleges and universities, interest groups (growing and allotment groups, WI, U3A etc) and any similar organisations.
Price: 500 + VAT per group or organisation with one registered address.
100 + VAT per additional name and registered address.

Corporate Member
Corporate membership covers non-UK based growers, agrochemical suppliers, equipment manufacturers, fertiliser and media producers, seed producers, wholesalers retailers and other similar groups. Corporate members are entitled to use the HDC logo in advertising literature to demonstrate support for British horticulture to their customers.
Price based on annual turnover:
1) under 0.5 million = 750 + VAT
This would entitle one named person within your company to be entitled to all of the benefits as listed below.
2) under 2.5 million = 1,250 + VAT
This would entitle two named people within your company to be entitled to all of the benefits as listed below.
3) over 2.5 million = 2,000 + VAT
This would entitle four named people within your company to be entitled to all of the benefits as listed below.
